Smart Start for Safe Paddling - Beginner-focused Paddler Resources
Explore this comprehensive collection of
beginner-focused paddling safety and education resources designed to
help more people start their paddling journey with the knowledge and
confidence to make safe, informed decisions on and around
the water. During this presentation, we will explore the Smart Start
program including its textbook, free online course, student activities,
presentation materials, videos, infographics, and ready-to-use
instructional resources. We will look at the audiences
these materials are intended to serve, why accessible foundational
education is so important for today’s rapidly growing paddling
community, and how Smart Start can support educators across the country.
Whether you are an ACA-certified instructor, a boating
safety professional, an outdoor program leader, an outfitter, a club
volunteer, or simply someone who teaches others about paddling, these
resources are designed to be flexible, approachable, and easy to
incorporate into your existing programs. No ACA membership
or certification is required to use them. The goal is simple: give
anyone who teaches paddling a strong, nationally aligned foundation for
helping more people get on the water safely.
